Home Page - About Us

GOLDENBROOK HOSTAS specializes in providing our customers with newer varieties of Hostas as well as the tried and true varieties.  Goldenbrook is run by myself (Cindy) and my husband Carel.   We are open MOST weekends and most days from May - October.   When we are here, we are open from 8:30 - 4:30.   However, to be sure we will  be here when you arrive, please send an email or phone 905 449-5906 as sometimes we do need to leave the premises....(and sometimes, we just need a vacation!!!)

We grow hostas both in pots and in the field.   We now have over 450 varieties.  Each year we continue to add new Hostas to our gardens.  As new varieties are available, they will be added to this site.   For 2010, we have a very exciting line-up.

We took a drive to Wisconsin to visit Foxfire Gardens and added many new varieties for 2010.   We will have a limited number of Foxfire OS available.

Goldenbrook Hostas is proud to be THE Canadian source for newly released tissue cultured Foxfire hostas.

OWN ONE OF THE MOST COVETED HOSTAS IN NORTH AMERICA

‘FOXFIRE PALM SUNDAY’

'Foxfire Palm Sunday' PPAF

It will be ready to ship to you beginning in June 2010.

Be one of the first to own this awesome hosta.  Now available in 2nd year tissue culture.  Reserve yours today by sending an email to info@goldenbrookhostas.com.

‘Foxfire Palm Sunday’ is a truly unique hosta!  It originated from a seedling of an open pollination cross between pod parent H. ’Independence Day’ (not patented) and an unknown pollen parent.   ‘Foxfire Palm Sunday’ has unique foliage - a palm leaf variegation pattern within the leaf.  It has vigorous growth characteristics and an intense ‘rubbery’ leaf texture.  Immature leaves on juvenile plants have a 'crumpled' look.  The rubbery leaf, as well as the multi lobular pattern of the centre, is very distinctive.  It is a powerful plant that has unmistakable 'presence' in the garden.  Stunning!  The price on this will be $80.

Also available in June will be Foxfire Night Skye.  It is a VERY dark sport of 'Edge of Night' with wide cream to white margins-the contrast being striking in a large hosta.  Similar in intensity to 'Karin' and 'Patriot' but larger and very robust.  It is easily identified across the garden.  The price on this will be $60.   There are very limited numbers available for this fine hosta!

We have spent 12 years transforming our one-acre property into a tranquil oasis of both shade and full-sun gardens. A landscaper by profession, Carel has devoted endless hours to developing a backyard retreat which features a Victorian conservatory surrounded by mature specimen hosta and an immense pond accented with cannas and tropical plants.

We have extensive show gardens and we encourage our customers to come and pick out their favorite hostas.   Bus Tours and garden clubs are welcomed and we serve refreshments for tours.   We are open on MOST weekends from May to October.  For other times, you will need to call ahead to ensure we are home. (905-449-5906 cell ).

We inspect and test our hostas carefully to ensure we are virus (HVX) free.   ALL of the wholesaler growers we purchase from test for HVX.

Mail orders (Canada only) will be shipped by express post on Monday mornings.  Exact shipping costs will be determined by your order.  Larger plants of course, will cost more to ship.  Order early to ensure your favourites are available, as some of the newer varieties are very limited supply and will sell out quickly.

Check out the Canada auction website on the Hosta Library at:  http://www.hostalibrary.org/cgi-bin/canada.pl  You can find some great buys and some of the harder to find hostas.
